Amla Pickle / Usiri Avakaya / Indian Gooseberry Pickle

  • 1 kg Amla/Usirikayalu
  • 200 gr Red Chilli Powder
  • 200 gr Rai Powder/Mustard Powder
  • 150 gr Salt
  • 250 gr Oil
  • Juice of 2 Lemons


  1. Wash well and clean amlas without moisture.
  2. Heat oil in a bowl place usirikayalu and cover with a plate, pour 1/2 cup of water on it.
  3. Cook on medium flame for 10 mins, then turn off the heat.
  4. Allow it to cool, once cooled add remaining ingredients and mix.
  5. Mix the pickle very carefully without leaving the seeds, now usirikaya avakai is ready.
  6. Serve it with steamed white rice along with ghee.It keeps in a dry bottle.
