Mango Sambar / Totapuri Mango Sambar

  • 1 Mango/Totapuri Mango/Antu Mamidikaya
  • 1 cup Toor dal
  • Lemon sized Tamarind
  • 1 pinch Turmeric powder
  • 1 sp Red chilli powder
  • 2 Green chillies chopped
  • 1 sp Sambar powder
  • 1 pinch Inguva/Hing
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 sp Cumin seeds
  • 1 Red chilli crocked
  • Curry leaves
  • 2 sp Oil


  1. Clean and soak tamarind in water and keep it aside, wash mango and cut into big pieces.
  2. Pressure cook toor dal up to 3 whistles, turn of the heat and let it cool, when done mash it.
  3. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add curry leaves, green chillies & mango pieces.
  4. Next add two cups of tamarind extract, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and allow it to boil for 5 mins on medium flame.
  5. Now add mashed dal, sambar powder, inguva and stir well, cook it for a couple of mins.
  6. When done turn off the heat and transfer into a serving bowl, serve with steamed white rice & ghee.
