Nimmakaya Pappu / Lemon Dal

  • 1 cup Toor dal
  • 1 pinch Turmeric powder
  • 3 Green Chillies cut into lengthwise
  • 2 sp Lemon Juice
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1 Red chilli crocked
  • 1 pinch Hingh/Inguva
  • few Curry leaves
  • 2 sp Oil


  1. Wash and pressure cook toor dal upto 3 whistles, when it cool remove the lid and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add curry leaves & green chillies and fry for 30 secs.
  3. Then add cooked toor dal, salt, turmeric powder & stir well, let it cook for 2 mins on low flame.
  4. When done, turn of heat, then add lemon juice, don't add lemon juice while cooking.
  5. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot with white rice or rotis.
