Gongura Pappu / Sorrel Leaves Dal

  • 1 cup Toor Dal
  • 2 cups chopped Gongura
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • 11/2 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 sp Cumin seeds
  • 1 Red Chilli crocked
  • Curry leaves


  1. Wash and pressure cook dal and gongura leaves, green chilli, onions in a separate bowls up to 3 whistles.
  2. Let the cooker cool remove the lid and mix and mash sorrel leaves & dal.
  3. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry for 1 min, once done add curry leaves, dal mixture and stir well.
  4. Then add red chilli powder, salt, turmeric powder and mix it well, let it cook for 5 mins on low flame, then turn of the heat.
  5. Transfer into a serving bowl, now gongura pappu is ready to serve, serve with rice or rotis.
