Alachandala Vadalu / Black Eyed Peas Fritters / Lobia Vadalu

  • 1 cup Lobia / Alasandalu / Bobbarlu
  • 2 Green Chilles
  • 2 inches Ginger Piece
  • Coriander leaves chopped
  • Curry leaves chopped
  • Oil for deep fry
  • Salt to taste


  1. Wash and soak lobia overnight or at least 4-5 hours, after that wash and drain the water from the alasandalu and keep aside.
  2. Grind them along with green chillies and ginger without water, then remove from the jar and place it into a mixing bowl, add salt, chopped coriander, curry leaves & mix well.
  3. Grease a plastic cover or your palm with water & take small ball and pat the ball to a round shape.
  4. Carefully drop them into hot oil and fry them on medium flame till they become brown in color, drain them on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  5. Alasandalu fritters (vadalu) are ready to serve, serve hot with onion chutney or tomato sauce.
