Keera Dosakaya Pappu / Cucumber Dal

  • 1 small cup Toor Dal
  • 1 small Cucumber/Keera Dosakaya
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • 2 Green Chilli chopped
  • 1 pinch Turmeric powder
  • 1 sp Red Chilli powder
  • 1 sp Tamarind pulp
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Red Chilli crocked
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • 2 sp Oil
  • few Curry leaves


  1. Wash, peel and chop keera dosakaya into small pieces.
  2. Combine and pressure cook dal, cucumber pieces, green chilli, tomato, allow it cool, once done remove the lid and mash it.
  3. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, when they splutter add curry leaves, tamarind pulp, cooked dal mixture and mix well.
  4. Add in turmeric, red chilli powder, salt, hing and stir well, let it cook for 5 mins on medium flame.
  5. When done turn off the heat and transfer into a serving bowl, now keera dosakaya pappu is ready to serve. Serve with rice or rotis.
