Sankranti Recipe Murukulu - Snacks

  • 4 cups Rice/Biyyam
  • 1 cup Urad Dal
  • 1/2 cup Roasted Chana Dal
  • 1 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 sp Cumin seeds
  • lime size Butter
  • Salt to Taste
  • Oil for deep fry
  • 1/2 sp Hing /Inguva


  1. Heat a kadai add rice and fry for 5 min on medium flame, when done remove from the fire.
  2. In the same pan, add urad dal and fry in the medium flame till it change its color and comes good aroma, then remove from the heat.
  3. Allow it to cool for some time and grind along with putnala pappu/roated chana dal.
  4. Take ground flour in a wide bowl and add above ingredients except oil and mix well, now add enough water and make a soft dough.
  5. Heat oil in a khadai on medium flame, place a fistful of dough in muruku maker & press it into hot oil, fry them till they turn light golden brown in color.
  6. Fry a few murukus at a time, once done remove from the pan and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil & allow them to cool.
  7. Now murukulu are ready to serve, store them in an airtight container.
