Toor Dal Onion Chutney / Ullipaya Kandi Pachadi

  • 1 small cup Toor Dal
  • 1/2 small lime size Tamarind
  • 1 Onion roughly chopped
  • 1/2 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 4 Red Chilles
  • 1 sp Ghee
  • Salt to taste


  1. Heat ghee in a pan add toor dal, red chillies & fry on low flame.
  2. Saute them until golden brown in color then remove from the pan and allow it to cool.
  3. Grind fried toor dal mixture along with cumin seeds, tamarind, salt by adding enough water into a coarse paste.
  4. Now add chopped onion and grind slightly then transfer into a serving bowl.
  5. Ullipaya kandi pachadi is ready to serve, serve with hot rice and ghee.
