Thotakura Senaga Pappu Kura / Amaranth Leaves Chana Dal Fry

  • 2 cups chopped Thotakura Leaves
  • 2 tbsp Chana Dal / Senaga Pappu
  • 2 sp grated Fresh Coconut
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • Salt to Taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Red Chilli crocked
  • Curry Leaves
  • 2 sp Oil


  1. Wash soak chana dal for 15 to 20 mins and keep aside. Clean, wash and chop amaranth leaves into small pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a khadai add popu ingredients and fry, once done add curry leaves, soaked chana dal, chopped thotakura and mix it well.
  3. Add turmeric powder, sprinkle few water and stir, cover with a lid and let it cook, if needed sprinkle little water and stir, cook on medium flame until done, stirring occasionally.
  4. When done add salt & stir, then add coconut, red chilli powder and mix it well, let it cook for couple of mins without lid.
  5. Now thotakura chana dal stir fry is ready, transfer into a serving bowl and serve with rice or roti.
