Carrot Upma - how to prepare Carrot Upma - Upma Varieties

  • 1 cup Semolina / Suji / Bombai Rava
  • 1 Carrot grated
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • 2 sp chopped Ginger
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 cups Water
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Chana Dal
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 3 or 4 chopped Cashew Nuts
  • Curry Leaves
  • 3 sp Oil
  • 1 sp Ghee


  1. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add curry leaves, chopped ginger, green chillies, cashew nuts and fry for 1 min.
  2. In this add grated carrot and fry them for a couple of mins, then add semolina and saute for 2 mins on low flame.
  3. Meanwhile, keep water for boiling in a another bowl, carefully add the boiling water to the roasted carrot- rava mixture & stir very well.
  4. Let it cook for 4 or 5 mins on low flame with cover, lastly add 1 sp of ghee to the cooked carrot upma & close the lid, turn off the flame & allow it to rest for another 2 mins.
  5. Now tasty- tasty carrot upma is ready, serve hot with any pickle or chutney powder.
