Allam Pachadi / Ginger Chutney - how to make Allam Pachadi

Serving Size: 1 cup full


  • 7 or 8 dry Red Chillies
  • 2 inches Ginger piece
  • small lime sized Tamarind
  • 2 sp grated Jaggery
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Methi Seeds
  • 1 pinch Inguva
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 sp Oil


  1. Wash and soak tamarind in little water & keep aside, wash, peel and chop ginger into small pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a pan add red chillies, mustard, methi seeds, inguva and fry, when done remove from the heat and let it cool.
  3. First grind fried popu along with soaked tamarind, turmeric powder, salt, chopped ginger into a coarse paste with little water if required.
  4. Add grated jaggery and grind it together, now ginger chutney is ready, put it in a small bowl and serve with hot rice and ghee.
