Phool Makhana Buttermilk Stew / Lotus Seeds Buttermilk Kadhi - Kadhi Recipes

  • 2 cups Butter Milk
  • 1/4 cup Phool Makhana/Lotus Seeds
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 1 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 sp Coriander Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • For Paste :
  • 11/2 sp Besan / Gram Flour
  • few Fresh Coconut Pieces
  • 2" inches Ginger roughly chopped
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1/2 sp Chana Dal
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Methi Seeds
  • 1 Red Chilli crocked
  • Curry Leaves
  • Coriander Leaves
  • 3 sp Oil


  1. Grind above paste ingredients into a smooth paste with enough water, dissolve the ground paste in buttermilk along with salt and mix well, keep it aside.
  2. Heat 1 sp oil in a pan add phool makhana and shallow fry them light brown color and remove from the pan and keep aside.
  3. In the same pan add 2 sp oil and add popu ingredients and fry, once done add buttermilk and add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and stir, let it boil for 5 mins.
  4. Lastly add fried makhana, coriander leaves & cook them on low to medium flame for 2-3 mins, then turn off the flame.
  5. Now pool makhana khadi is ready and transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander leaves and serve, serve hot with rice or roti.
