Cabbage Garelu / Patta Gobhi Fritters

  • 1 cup Urad Dal
  • 1 cup chopped Cabbage/Patta Gobhi
  • 1 Onion finely chopped
  • 1 sp chopped Ginger
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • few chopped Coriander Leaves
  • few chopped Curry Leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep fry


  1. Wash and soak urad dal for 2 hours, then drain well & grind into a coarse paste along with ginger, green chillies, remove from the jar and place in a bowl.
  2. Add all other ingredients (except oil) to the ground batter and mix it well, now garelu batter is ready.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai, when hot take small balls from the batter and flatten them slightly on a plastic paper & drop gently into the hot oil.
  4. Deep fry them till golden brown in color, then remove from the pan & place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  5. Now cabbage garelu are ready to serve, serve hot with allam chutney.
