Elephant Yam Raw Banana Curry/Kanda Gadda Aratikaya Kura

  • 1/2 cup chopped Yam Pieces
  • 1/2 cup chopped Raw Banana
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • For Powder :
  • 1/2 sp Coriander Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 sp Peanuts
  • 2 Red Chillies
  • 3-4 dry Coconut Pieces(small)
  • 2 Garlic Cloves
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1/2 sp Chana Dal
  • 1 Red Chilli
  • Curry Leaves
  • 2 sp oil


  1. Wash, peel yam, raw banana and cut into small pieces, cook them on stove top with turmeric powder and salt.Once done remove from the flame and drain them.
  2. Meanwhile heat a small pan add powder ingredients(except coconut, garlic)and dry roast. Roast them until light brown in color, transfer to a plate and allow it to cool, once cooled grind them into a coarse powder along with coconut and garlic.
  3. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add curry leaves, cooked elephant yam, raw banana pieces and stir, then add ground powder and mix well, let it cook for a couple of mins on low flame with a lid. When done turn off the flame and transfer into a serving bowl and serve with steamed white rice.
