Simple Toor Dal / Kandi Kattu

  • 1 small cup Toor Dal/Kandi Pappu
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 sp Sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/4 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 pinch Hing/Inguva
  • 1 Red Chilli
  • 1 sp Oil
  • Curry Leaves


  1. Wash toor dal, for 1 cup toor dal add 3 cups of water and cook it in a pressure cooker for 3 whistles and keep aside.
  2. Once cooled, mash it properly, heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done pour mashed dal, turmeric powder, salt, sugar and mix well.
  3. Allow it to boil on medium heat for a couple of mins, then turn off the flame & transfer into a serving bowl, now toor dal is ready to serve, serve with plain rice and ghee.
