Puttu Recipe – How to Make Sweet Puttu with Idly Rava Without Puttu Maker

  • 1 cup Idly Rava
  • 1 cup grated Jaggery
  • 1/4 cup grated fresh Coconut or Dry Coconut
  • few chopped Cashew Nuts
  • 2 sp chopped Pista
  • 1 sp Elaichi Powder
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 pinch Salt


  1. Heat a pan add idly rava and dry roast it in low flame till it becomes light brown color, then remove from the pan and leave it for a couple of mins, then grind it to a powder.
  2. Once cooled add 1/4 cup of water or enough water, little salt and prepare a thick dough and keep it onto a greased idly plate and prepare idly by steam cooking until done.
  3. Allow it to cool, once done crumble idlis with hand into a fine powder and add, elaichi powder, grated jaggery and mix well.
  4. Heat ghee in a small frying pan add chopped cashew nuts & fry, when done add into rava mixture along with ghee, add grated coconut and mix well with hand.
  5. Now idly rava sweet puttu without puttu maker is ready, fill the mixed puttu tightly in any of your favorite bowl & place them on a serving plate to get cute shape.
  6. Garnish with chopped pistas, cashew nuts and serve. I used small plastic tea glass to form cute rava puttu.
