  • 1 no Drumstick/Munakkaya
  • 1 cup Curd/Yogurt
  • 2 Green Chillies slit lengthwise
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 1 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 sp Garam Masala Powder
  • 11/2 sp Besan/Gram Flour
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Chana Dal
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Red Chilli
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • chopped Coriander Leaves
  • few Curry Leaves
  • 2 sp Oil


  1. Wash, peel drumstick and cut into small pieces and cook them with little salt until tender & keep aside.
  2. Combine the curd, besan, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt in a bowl and mix well.
  3. Add in 1 cup of water and blend well till smooth like thick butter milk and keep aside.
  4. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add chopped green chillies, curry leaves and fry for 30 secs.
  5. Then pour the buttermilk mixture & cook on medium flame until the raw smell gone, stirring continuously.
  6. Then add cooked drumstick pieces, chopped coriander leaves, garam masala powder and mix well & simmer for 5 mins.
  7. When done turn off the flame and transfer into a serving bowl, now drumstick buttermilk stew is ready, serve hot with steamed rice and papad.
