Tomato Semiya Upma / Tomato Vermicelli Bath

  • 1 cup Semiya/Vermicelli
  • 2 Tomatoes chopped finely
  • 1 big Onion finely chopped
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped finely
  • 2 sp chopped Ginger
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 2 cups Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 sp Oil fry for vermicelli
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Chana Dal
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1 Red Chilli crocked
  • few Curry Leaves
  • 2 sp Oil


  1. Heat a pan add 1/2 sp oil, vermicelli and roast them till light brown in color, then remove from the pan and keep aside. Add remaining oil to the same pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add curry leaves, ginger, green chillies, chopped onion & fry. Stir-fry until the onion is translucen
  2. Then add chopped tomatoes and stir, sprinkle very little water and cook till tomatoes are soft.
  3. Then add water, turmeric powder, salt and bring it to a boil, when it starts boiling add in fried vermicelli and mix well.
  4. Allow it to cook completely with cover, keep stirring. When done add chopped coriander leaves and mix well, let it leave for 2 mins with cover.
  5. Now tomato vermicelli bath is ready, turn off the flame and transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
