Mawa Gujiya / Kova Kajjikayalu – How to prepare kova gujiya

    For Dough :
  • 1 small cup All purpose Flour/Maida
  • 1 pinch Cooking Soda
  • 2 sp Ghee
  • Oil for deep fry
  • For Stuffing :
  • 1/4 cup Sweet Kohya/Mawa/Kova
  • 2 sp chopped Dry Fruits
  • 1 pinch Elaichi Powder
  • For Syrup :
  • 1 small cup Sugar
  • same cup Water
  • For Garnishing :
  • crushed Dry Fruits


  1. Take plain flour add cooking soda, ghee and mix together, then add enough water and make a soft dough & keep aside for 15 mins, meanwhile, in a small bowl combine above the stuffing ingredients mix well & set aside.
  2. Mix well and divide the dough into 6 equal balls and keep aside, take one dough ball and press it into small puri & place 2 sp of stuffing in the center and fold it to other side & make into a gujiya, then press the edges with a fork. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, when hot deep fry the gujiyas over medium heat until light golden brown and remove from the hot oil and keep aside. Boil sugar with a cup of water in a bowl, stirring constantly until it comes one string consistency, then dip this fried gujiys in the sugar syrup one by one and garnish with chopped dry fruits.
  4. Now tasty tasty khoya/kova gujiyas are ready, let them cool completely and keep them in an airtight container.
