Potlakaya Pesara Curry / Snake Gourd Moong Dal Porial

  • 1 cup Snake Gourd Pieces
  • 2 sp Moong Dal
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • 2 sp grated Fresh Coconut
  • 3 Garlic Cloves crushed(optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Red Chilli
  • 2 sp Oil
  • Curry Leaves


  1. Wash and soak moong dal for 10 mins and keep aside. Wash the snake gourd and slit into middle, then remove the seeds & chop into small pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add crushed garlic, curry leaves and fry for a few secs, then add chopped snake gourd pieces and stir. Sprinkle little water and cook with cover until half done.
  3. Then add soaked moong dal, turmeric powder and mix well, cover the pan and let it cook on medium flame for a couple of mins or until the moong dal is soft. Then add salt, coconut, red chilli powder and mix well, continue to cook for a while, after that turn off the flame and transfer into a serving bowl. Now snake gourd moong dal curry is ready to serve.
