Pala Munjalu / Pala Munjalu With Suji Halwa Stuffing – how to make Andhra Special Pala Munjalu

Ingredients

    For the outer dough :
  • 1 cup Rice Flour
  • 11/2 cup Milk
  • 1 sp Sugar
  • 2 sp Ghee
  • For Stuffing :
  • 1 cup Suji/Semolina
  • 11/4 cup Sugar
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 pinch Ealichi Powder
  • 2 sp Ghee

Instructions

  1. Boil milk+ 1 sp sugar in a sauce pan, once it starts boiling reduce the flame then add the rice flour and mix well, turn off the flame and allow it to cool with cover. Once done add ghee and knead it well.
  2. In a pan add water, sugar and bring it to a boil until the sugar dissolves, then slowly add suji and keep mixing without any lumps. Now add ealichi powder, ghee and mix well. Let it cook on low flame for a couple of mins or until it thickens. Allow it cool for some time.
  3. Once cooled mix halwa well and make small lemon sized balls and keep aside. Do the same with the rice flour dough. Grease your palm with little ghee/oil and make a small size cup with dough ball, then place the stuffing in the middle, cover the edges carefully and make a round shape.
  4. Do the same with the remaining stuffing and dough. Heat oil in a pan on medium heat, once the oil becomes hot, drop the balls slowly into it.
  5. Fry them evenly till golden brown in color on all sides, remove from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Now traditional sweet recipe pala munjalu are ready for naivedyam to Lord Ganesha during Vinayaka Chavithi festival.
