Kanda Tomato Kura / Elephant Yam Tomato Curry / Suran Tomato Curry

  • 1 cup chopped Yam Pieces/Suran/Kandagadda
  • 1 Tomato finely chopped
  • 1 Green Chilli chopped
  • 1/4 sp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Chana Dal
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1 Red Chilli
  • few Curry Leaves
  • 2 sp Oil


  1. Wash well and remove the hard skin of the yam and cut into small pieces. Cook chopped yam pieces along with turmeric powder and salt. Once done remove from the heat and drain.
  2. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add curry leaves, chopped green chillies and stir for 30 secs, then add chopped tomato, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, little salt and stir-cook till soft, add little water if needed.
  3. Add cooked yam pieces and mix everything well. Continue to cook for a while with cover. Now kandagadda tomato kura is ready, transfer into a serving bowl and serve with rice or roti.
