Chukka Kura Tomato Pulusu / Sorrel Spinach Tomato Stew

  • 2 bunches Chukka kura / Sorrel Spinach
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • 1 Onion finely chopped
  • 1 Green Chillie chopped
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 1 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1/2 sp Chana Dal
  • 1 Red Chilli crocked
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • 2 sp Oil


  1. Clean wash and chop chukka kura into small pieces & keep aside, Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add chopped green chillies, onion and fry till soft. Then add chopped tomato and cook for another one or two minutes until they become soft.
  2. Then add chopped chukka kura/red sorrel and mix well. Close with a lid and cook, stirring occasionally. Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and mix well, add in 1/2 cup of water and continue to cook for a couple of mins. when it done turn off the flame and transfer into a serving bowl. Now chukka kura tomato pulusu/stew is ready to serve, serve with rice or roti.
