Alasandalu Masala Dal / Lobia Masala Dal / Dal with Black Eyed Peas

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Alasandalu/Bobbarlu
  • 1/2 cup Urad Dal
  • 2 Tomatoes chopped finely
  • 1 Onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 sp Ginger Garlic paste
  • 1/2 sp Garam Masala
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 pinch Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 sp Red Chilli powder
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 3 sp Oil
  • Salt
  • Coriander leaves
  • Curry leaves

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak black eyed peas overnight or at least for 5 or 6 hours.
  2. Soak urad dal for 2 hours, wash them and pressure cook and keep aside.
  3. Heat oil in pan add cumin seeds and fry for 1 min then add ginger garlic paste.
  4. Add chopped onions, curry leaves and stir-fry till the onions turn soft.
  5. then add chopped tomatoes and cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  6. Now add cooked dal, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, high and mix well.
  7. Let it cook for a few mins on medium flame, add milk, garam masala and mix it well.
  8. Cook on low flame for 2 mins and then turn off the flame, transfer into a serving bowl.
  9. Garnish with chopped onion and coriander leaves, now alasandala masala dal is ready to serve, serve with puri or chapathi.
