Poha Potato Fritters / Aloo Aval Vada / Flattened Rice Fritters

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Poha/Flattened Rice/Atukulu/Beaten Rice
  • 2 Boiled Potatoes
  • 2 sp Besan/Gram Flour
  • 1 Onion finely chopped
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • chopped Coriander Leaves
  • chopped Curry Leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep fry

Instructions

  1. Remove the skin of boiled potatoes and mash well. In a mixing bowl add mashed potatoes, onion, green chillies, chopped coriander and curry leaves. In the meantime, wash and soak poha for 5 mins. After that squeeze the poha and add it to mixing bowl and mix well.
  2. Then add besan, salt to poha mixture and mix everything well and make a dough.  Now poha vada batter is ready. Divide the dough into equal lemon sized balls and keep aside. Heat oil in a khadai for deep fry.
  3. Take one dough ball and press it gently and drop slowly into the hot oil. Fry them till light golden brown, then remove from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Repeat the same process with the remaining batter. Now poha fritters /atukula vadalu are ready. Serve hot with a cup of coffee or tea.
