Kodo Millet Veg Khichadi / Arikelu Veg Khichadi – Millet Recipes

  • 1 cup Kodo Millet/Arikelu
  • 1/2 cup Moong Dal/Pesara Pappu
  • 1 Potato
  • 1 Carrot
  • 2 Green Beans
  • 2 sp chopped Green Chillies
  • 1 sp chopped Ginger
  • 1 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 sp crushed Black Pepper
  • 1/4 sp Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry Leaves
  • 3 cups Water
  • 2 sp Oil + 2 sp Ghee


  1. Wash and soak kodo millet, moong dal for 10-15 mins, in the mean time peel and chop potato, carrot and chop beans. Heat oil+ghee in a pressure cooker add cumin seeds, hing, crushed black pepper and fry for a few secs, then add curry leaves, chopped green chillies, chopped ginger and fry for a while.
  2. Add chopped vegetables, turmeric powder and stir-fry for one min. Then add soaked kodo millet+ moong dal and stir well. Now add salt and 3 cups of water.
  3. Give a quick stir and close the lid, allow it to cook for 3 whistles. Once done turn off the flame and let the cooker cool. Once cooled open the lid and mix gently. Now kodo millet veg khichadi is ready, transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot with coconut chutney.
