Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice
- 3/4 cup Toor Dal
- 1 Tomato chopped
- 2 Green Chillies
- 2 inches Ginger Piece
- 1/4 sp Turmeric Powder
- 1 sp Red Chilli Powder
- Salt to taste
For Popu :
- 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
- 1/2 sp Cumin Seeds
- 1 pinch Hing
- few Curry Leaves
- chopped Coriander Leaves
- 4 sp Ghee
Instructions
Put rice+toor dal in a bowl and keep aside. Wash and chop tomato, green chillies and ginger.
Wash and soak rice + toor dal with 4 cups of water for 10 mins, after that add turmeric powder and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Once done turn off the heat and allow it to cool.
Heat ghee in a kadai add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing and fry, then add chopped ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and fry for a min. Next add chopped tomato and stir.
Cook till the tomato turn soft and mushy, add red chilli powder and cook for a min. Then add cooked rice+dal mixture and mix very well. If necessary add 1/2 cup of water and mix.
Add enough salt, chopped coriander leaves and mix everything well. Continue to cook for a couple of mins on low flame, now Dal Khichdi is ready. Turn off the heat and transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
