Ingredients

  • 1 small cup Urad Dal
  • same cup Grated Jaggery
  • 3/4 cup Water
  • 1 pinch Elaichi Powder
  • Oil for deep fry

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak urad dal for 2 hours and then grind into a smooth and thick paste with a little water, now vada batter is ready.
  2. Combine water and jaggery in a bowl and boil until the jaggery dissolves. Once done strain the jaggery water and heat again on low-medium flame for 5 mins, add elaichi powder and turn off the flame. Take 1 cup of water in a another bowl, add in 2 sp jaggery syrup and keep aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan for deep fry, take lemon sized ball from the urad dal batter, place on a plastic paper and make it a round flat shape, make a hole in the center and then drop it slowly into the hot oil and deep fry till golden brown in color.
  4. Then put the fried vada in jaggery water for 1 min, after that press it gently and keep in jaggery syrup. Do the same process with the remaining batter and soak them for 1 hour. Now Varalakshmi Vratham naivedyam pakam garelu are ready.
