Wash and soak rice+masoor dal in a bowl and keep aside for 10 mins. In a pressure pan, heat ghee and oil, once hot add cumin seeds, pepper powder, pepper corn, cashew nuts, inguva and fry. Next add chopped green chillies, chopped ginger, curry leaves and fry for a while. Then add in soaked and drained dal+rice and mix well. Stir well and fry for a minute, then add water, enough salt and mix well. Close with the lid and pressure cook for three or four whistles. When done turn off the flame and allow it to cool down completely. Once cooled remove the lid and mix well. Now masoor dal khichdi/red lentil pongal is ready. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot with chutney or sambar. Ingredients
