Ingredients

  • 1 cup Cooked Rice
  • 1/4 cup Vakkayalu/Karonda/Kale kayalu
  • 3 Green Chillies slit lengthwise
  • 1/4 sp Turmeric Powder
  • enough Salt

For Popu :

  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Chana Dal
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • fistful Peanuts
  • 2 Red Chillies
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • few Curry Leaves
  • 3 sp Oil

Instructions

Wash vakkayalu/cranberries well, half cut them and remove the inner seeds, then blend them into a coarse paste and keep aside.

Heat oil in a pan add peanuts and fry, once done transfer to a plate, add remaining popu ingredients and fry. Then add in chopped green chillies, curry leaves and fry for a while. Now add ground karonda paste, turmeric powder and stir.

Cook on medium-low flame and it will cook just soft, then add cooked rice, salt and mix everything well.

Add in fried peanuts and mix well. Now tangy, spicy and tasty vakkaya pulihora is ready to serve.
