Drumstick Flowers Fritters / Munaga Pula Pakoda – Pakoda Recipes – Tea Time Snack

  • 1 cup fresh Drumstick Flowers/Munaga Pulu
  • 4 sp Besan/Gram Flour
  • 2 sp Rice Flour
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • 1 inch Ginger Piece
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 sp crushed Coriander Seeds
  • 1 pinch cookig Soda
  • Salt to taste
  • chopped Coriander Leaves
  • chopped Curry Leaves
  • chopped Mint leaves
  • little Water
  • Oil for deep fry


  1. Wash well drumstick flowers/munaga pulu and keep aside. Blend green chillies, ginger into a coarse paste and keep aside. place drumstick flowers, besan in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add rice flour, ginger green chilli paste, cooking soda, salt, chopped coriander, curry, mint leaves and mix well, then add in crushed coriander seeds, red chilli powder, turmeric powder. In the meantime, heat oil in a khadai, when hot add 2 sp hot oil to besan - drumstick flower mixture and mix well.
  3. Add very little water to it and make a thick batter, now pakoda batter is ready. Take small portion of the besan mixture and drop them in hot oil and fry them on medium heat until golden brown in color. Then remove from the hot oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  4. Repeat the same process with the remaining batter. Fry few curry leaves in the hot oil for garnishing. Now drumstick flowers fritters/munaga pula pakoda is ready. Garnish with fried curry leaves and serve hot with a cup of coffee or tea.
