Ingredients

  • 1 cup All purpose Flour/Maida
  • 2 sp Ghee
  • 1/4 sp Baking Soda
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • enough Water
  • Oil for deep frying
  • For Sugar Syrup :
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 pinch Elaichi Powder
  • 3/4 cup Water for syrup
  • Gavvala Peeta/Wodden Mold

Instructions

  1. In a bowl add flour, ghee, baking soda, salt and mix well, then add enough water and make a soft dough. Keep aside for 15 mins with cover.

After that knead the dough well and divide into small balls and keep aside. Apply little oil to the gavval chekka(wodden mold) and hold the gavvala peeta with your left hand, take one dough ball and press it gently on the gavvala peeta with thumb finger. Do the same process with the dough balls.

  5. Heat oil in a pan for deep fry, when hot fry them in small batches till they get a nice golden color, then remove from the oil and keep aside. Boil sugar and water together in a pan and make it into a syrup, add in elaichi powder and mix well.

  7. Once the pakam is ready, add fried gavvalu in the sugar syrup and mix well till each shell is coated with the syrup, then transfer them onto a plate, let them cool down. Now sweet gavvalu are ready to serve, you can store them in an airtight container and they stay fresh for at least ten days.
  8. Gavvalu sweet is a traditional Indian sweet, this sweet is normally prepared during festival celebrations and other special occasions.
