Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Alasandalu/Bobbarlu/Black Eyed Peas
  • 2 sp Rice Flour
  • 1 Onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Green Chillies finely chopped
  • 2 sp chopped Coriander Leaves
  • 2 sp chopped Curry Leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep fry
  • for Garnishing :
  • 2 sp chopped Onion
  • 2 sp chopped Coriander Leaves

Instructions

  1. Wash thoroughly and soak black eyed beans in enough water for 6-7 hours or overnight.
  2. Next day wash and drain them, keep aside for 20 min, then grind into a coarse paste without adding water and transfer into a mixing bowl.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients (except oil) and mix well, heat oil in a frying pan, when hot take small portion of the mixed batter and drop them( small lemon sized) gently into the hot oil.
  4. Once the punugulu turn dark golden brown in color then remove from the cooking oil and place over a kitchen towel or tissue to drain excess oil.
  5. Repeat the process with the remaining batter, now alasandalu punugulu/bondalu are ready to serve.
  6. Garnish with chopped onion, coriander leaves and serve hot with ketchup or coconut chutney.
