  • 1/2 cup chopped Sorrel Leaves / Gongura
  • 1/2 cup chopped Thotakura / Amaranth Leaves
  • fistful Chana Dal /Bengal Gram
  • 1/2 sp Tamarind Paste
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • 1 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1 Red Chilli
  • 1 pinch Inguva / Hing
  • 2 sp Oil


  1. Wash and soak chana dal for 10 min and keep aside.
  2. Put leafy vegetables, chopped green chillis, tomato, soaked chana dal in a pressure cooker add 1/2 cup of water and cook for 3 whistles, When done turn off the flame and allow it to cool.
  3. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add chopped onion and stir-fry the onions until it turns light pink add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and stir.
  4. Then add cooked gongura chana dal mix, tamarind paste, salt and mix it well, cook for couple of mins and turn off the flame.
  5. Now gongura thotakura pulusu is ready, transfer into a serving bowl and serve it with rice or roti.
