Tomato Rice Recipe / Thakkali Sadam - how to make Tomato Rice in Rice Cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 3 Tomatoes chopped
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • 1 sp Ginger Garlic paste
  • 1 big Onion chopped
  • 3 Cloves/Lavangalu
  • 1" Dalchini/Cinnamon
  • 3 Elaichi Pods
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 sp Oil
  • Curry leaves
  • chopped Coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak rice for 10 min in rice cooker bowl with two cups of water and keep aside. Heat oil in a pan add cloves, dalchini, elaichi and fry for a while. Add onion, green chilli pieces, curry leaves and fry until the onions are tender, then add ginger garlic paste and stir.
  2. Fry until the raw smell goes out, add chopped tomatoes and stir well, cover and cook for 5 mins on low flame till the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
  3. Transfer the fried tomato mixture to rice cooker bowl, add enough salt and mix well. Press the switch to cooking mode, when the rice is cooked switch will automatically move to 'keep warm' mode. Now Tomato rice is ready to serve, serve hot with onion raita or pickle.
