  • 1 small cup Proso Millet/Varagu Rice
  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 potatoes
  • fistful Peanuts
  • 1/4 sp Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 Cloves
  • 2 small pieces of Cinnamon
  • few Curry Leaves
  • few Mint Leaves
  • 2 sp Oil
  • For Powder :
  • 1 inch Cinnamon Stick
  • 3 Elaichi Pods
  • 4 Cloves


  1. Wash and soak poso millet for 10 mins and keep aside, wash, peel potato and chop into small pieces. Pressure cook proso millet, aloo pieces in a separate bowls for 2 whistles. Once done remove the lid and allow it cool. Meantime grind powder ingredients into a coarse powder and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan add cloves, cinnamon, peanuts and fry for 1 min, then add cooked aloo pieces, curry leaves, turmeric powder and stir-fry for a couple of mins on low-medium flame.
  3. Then add cooked varugu rice, salt, ground masala powder and mix everything well, add chopped mint leaves and mix well, simmer on flame for a min then turn off the flame and transfer into a serving bowl. Now healthy breakfast/lunch recipe varagu rice aloo bath is ready to serve, serve hot with onion raita.
