Cabbage Kootu Recipe / Patta Gobhi Pepper Stew / Cabbage Toor Dal Kootu
Ingredients
- 1 small cup Toor Dal
- 1 cup chopped Cabbage
- 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 sp Coriander Seeds
- 1/2 sp Chana Dal
- 1/2 sp Urad Dal
- 1/4 sp Peppercorns
- 2 Red Chillies
- 2 inches Tamarind flake
- fistful Coconut Pieces
- 1 sp Oil
- 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
- 1/2 sp Urad Dal
- 1 Red Chilli crocked
- 1 pinch Inguva
- Curry leaves
- 2 sp Oil

Instructions
- Wash and pressure cook toor dal, chopped cabbage with 1 cup of water for 3 whistles, after that allow it to cool down for a couple of mins, once done remove the lid and keep aside.
- Meanwhile, heat 1 sp oil in a pan add paste ingredients and fry until they turn golden brown in color. (except tamarind & coconut)
- Grind them into a coarse paste along with tamarind and coconut pieces by adding little water.
- Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add curry leaves and fry for a few secs. Then add in cooked cabbage dal mixture, ground paste and combine well, add in 1/2 cup of water.. Add salt, turmeric powder and mix well, let it cook for a couple of mins on medium flame.
- When done turn off the flame and transfer into a serving bowl. Now Cabbage kootu/cabbage pepper stew is ready to serve, serve with rice and rotis.
