Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Toor Dal
  • 1 no Seema Vankaya / Chow chow
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • For Paste :
  • 1/2 sp Coriander Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Chana Dal
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1/4 sp Pepper Seeds
  • 2 Red Chillies
  • 2 inches Tamarind flake
  • fistful Coconut Pieces
  • 1 sp Oil
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1 Red Chilli crocked
  • 1 pinch Inguva
  • Coriander Leaves
  • Curry leaves
  • 2 sp Oil

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel seema vankaya and cut it into big pieces
  2. Pressure cook toor dal and chopped seema vankaya and let it cool for some time.
  3. Heat oil in a pan add paste ingredients and fry except tamarind and coconut pieces.
  4. Grind into a coarse paste along with tamarind and coconut pieces by adding little water.
  5. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry for 2 mins and add curry leaves.
  6. Add dal mixture, ground paste and combine well, add cup of water if required.
  7. Now add salt, turmeric powder and stir well, let it cook for a couple of mins and then turn off the flame.
  8. Transfer into a serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves.
  9. Now seema vankaya kootu is ready to serve, serve with rice and rotis.
