Idli Recipe – South Indian Breakfast

  • 1 cup Urad Dal
  • 2 cups Idli Rava
  • Salt to taste


  1. Wash and soak urad dal, uppudu rava in a separate bowls for 4 hours.
  2. Once soaked grind urad dal by adding enough water till it becomes smooth batter.
  3. Wash rava well and squeeze the rava, then add it to ground urad dal paste and mix well.
  4. Then leave the batter overnight, after that add salt to the batter and mix well.
  5. Grease the idli moulds with little oil, then fill it with the idli batter.
  6. Steam cook them for 10-12 minutes in pressure / idly cooker.
  7. Take out the idli stand from the idli cooker and let it cool for a while.
  8. Then remove the idlis from the moulds, now hot hot idlis are ready to serve.
  9. Serve hot with chutney and sambar.
