Ingredients

  • 1 small cup Toor Dal
  • 1 Noolkol / Turnip
  • 1 pinch Turmeri Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • For Paste :
  • few Dry Coconut Pieces
  • 1/2 sp Coriander Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1 sp Peppercorns
  • 1 Red Chilli
  • 1/2 sp Oil
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Red Chilli crocked
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • 2 sp Oil
  • Curry Leaves

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel the skin and cut noolkol into medium size pieces, wash toor dal, add chopped noolkol and pressure cook.
  2. Meanwhile, heat oil in a small frying pan add paste ingredients and fry, when it done remove from the heat.
  3. Let it cool for some time and then grind into a smooth paste along with coconut pieces, keep aside.
  4. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, when done add curry leaves, cooked dal, ground paste, turmeric powder, salt and mix it well.
  5. Add water if needed, let it cook on low flame for 5 mins, once done turn off the heat.
  6. Now noolkol pepper kootu is ready, transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot with rice or roti.
