Ridge Gourd Dal with Moong Dal / Beerakaya Pesara Pappu

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Ridge Gourd Pieces/Beerakaya Mukkalu
  • 1 small cup Moong Dal
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • small marble size Tamarind
  • 1 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 4 Garlic Cloves(optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Red Chillies
  • Curry Leaves
  • 2 sp Oil

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel ridge gourd and cut into small pieces. In a small pressure cooker add moong dal and wash well, then add in chopped ridge gourd, green chillies, tomatoes, tamarind, red chilli, turmeric powder and pressure cook with two cups of water. Once done remove from the heat and set aside to cool.
  2. Once cooled remove the lid and mash well. Add salt and mix well, let it cook for a couple of mins, after that turn of the flame. Heat oil in a small frying pan add popu ingredients and fry, then add garlic cloves, curry leaves and fry for 10 sec. when done add it to cooked dal mixture and mix well. Now ridge gourd moong dal is ready, transfer into a serving bowl and serve with rice or roti.
