Urad Dal Onion Vada / Ulli Garelu Recipe / Onion Vada

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Urad Dal/Black Gram Dal
  • 1 big Onion
  • 4 Green Chillies
  • enough Salt
  • Curry Leaves chopped
  • Oil for deep fry

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak urad dal for 2 hours and grind into a coarse paste with out water.
  2. Grind green chillies, onion pieces into coarse paste ( kacha pacha ).
  3. In a mixing bowl combine urad dal batter, salt and mix well.
  4. Add chopped curry leaves, onion mixture and mix thoroughly.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan, shape the batter into small vadas and fry until brown in color.
  6. Remove from oil and drain them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  7. Now ulli garelu/onion vadalu are ready to serve, serve hot with chutney.
