Idli Sambar Recipe / Tiffin Sambar / Sambar for South Indian Breakfast Recipes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Toor Dal
  • 1/4 cup Chana Dal
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • small marble size Tamarind
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 2 sp grated Jaggery
  • 1 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 sp Sambar Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Methi Seeds
  • 2 Red Chillies crocked
  • 1 pinch Inguva
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves
  • 2 sp Oil

Instructions

  1. Wash tamarind and soak with one cup of water and keep aside.
  2. Combine the toor dal, chana dal and pressure cook along with chopped vegetables.
  3. Once done turn of the heat and allow it to cool, once cooled remove the lid and mash it well.
  4. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add tamarind extract, turmeric powder, sambar powder, red chilli powder and mix well.
  5. Let it boil for a couple of mins, then add cooked dal mixture, salt, jaggery and mix well, Boil the sambar for 5 mins on low flame.
  6. Now idly sambar is ready, turn off the heat and transfer into a serving bowl.
  7. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with breakfast recipes
  8. Note: Tamarind is less for idly sambar than normal sambar
