Chana Dal Kheer / Senaga Pappu Payasam / Bengal Gram Kheer

Ingredients :

  • 1  cup Chana Dal
  • 1 cup Grated Jaggery
  • 1 pinch Elaichi powder
  • few Coconut pieces
  • few Cashew pieces
  • 2 sp fresh grated coconut
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 2 sp Ghee

Procedure :

  • Wash and cook the bengal gram in sufficient water and keep aside.
  • Heat ghee in a pan add coconut pieces and fry till golden brown then remove from the pan and keep aside
  • In the same pan add cashew nuts and fry till light golden color.
  • Grind grated coconut into a paste with enough milk.
  • When the bengal gram is well cooked add jaggery and cook.
  • Now add coconut paste, elaichi powder and mix well continue to cook for a couple of mins.
  • The mixture does not become very thick, it should be pouring consistency.
  • Lastly add milk and cook for a few sec. The turn of the heat and transfer into a serving bowl.
  • Garnish with fried coconut and cashew pieces, now chana dal kheer is ready to serve.
