Sun Dried Mango Dal Recipe / Mamidi Varugu Pappu / Mamidikaya Orugulu Pappu

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Toor Dal
  • 1/4 cup Dried Mango Pieces/Varugulu
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 1 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • 1 Red Chilli crocked
  • Coriander Leaves
  • Curry Leaves
  • 2 sp Oil

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the sun dried mango pieces in a bowl and keep aside. Wash the toor dal, green chillies and place in a bowl.
  2. Pressure cook them separately, once done remove the lid and keep aside.
  3. Mash the cooked mango pieces and add it to the cooked dal and mix thoroughly. Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add curry leaves.
  4. Then add cooked dal mixture, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and cook. Add coriander leaves and stir well. Let it cook for a couple of mins, after that turn off the flame and transfer into a serving bowl. Now mamidikaya varugu pappu is ready to serve, serve with rice and roties.
  5. For Varugu : Wash and peel the skin of raw mango and cut into thin strips.keep the mango strips in a plate and keep it out in the sun to dry. These strips turn dry and a bit wheatish in color and store them in a jar.

Hi,
sorry for the delay…. process for varugulu is as follows.
1. peel the raw mangoes and chop into thin slices.
2. dry the sliced pieces in sun light for 3-4 days until its totally dried.
