Quick Sambar Bath / Instant Sambar Rice / Sambar Rice In Pressure Cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/4 cup Toor Dal
  • 1 small lime size Tamarind
  • 1 Aloo/Potato
  • 1 Carrot
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • 1 Tomato
  • 4 no Beans
  • 1/4 sp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 sp Sambar Powder
  • 1/2 sp Red Chilli Powder
  • 5 cups Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 sp Oil
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 pinch Methi Seeds
  • 2 Red Chillies
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • 2 sp Oil + 2 sp Ghee
  • few chopped Coriander Leaves
  • few Curry Leaves

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak tamarind in 1 cup of water for 10 mins, after that squeeze and extract the tamarind juice. Combine rice and dal, wash well and soak in water for 10 mins and keep aside.
  2. In the meantime, wash and chop all the vegetables and keep aside, heat oil in a pressure cooker, when hot add the chopped vegetables and stir for 30 secs.
  3. Add soaked rice mixture and mix well, then add 4 cups water+ 1 cup tamarind juice, salt, turmeric, red chilli, sambar powders and mix well. Add chopped coriander, curry leaves, close the lid and pressure cook for 4 whistles.
  4. When done remove the lid, heat oil+ghee in a frying pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add it to cooked rice dal mixture and mix very well, now quick sambar bath/rice is ready, serve hot with potato chips.
