Ridge Gourd Tomato Dal Recipe / Birakaya Pappu / Turai Tomato Dal
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Toor Dal
- 1 no Birakaya
- 1 Green Chilli chopped
- 1 Onion chopped
- 1 Tomato chopped
- 4 crushed Garlic Cloves
- 1" Tamarind flake
- 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
- 3/4 sp Red Chilli Powder
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
- 1/2 sp Cumin Seeds
- 1 Red Chilli crocked
- Curry leaves
- Coriander Leaves
- 2 sp Oil

Instructions
- Wash, peel birakaya/ridge gourd and chop into small pieces and keep aside. Wash toor dal well.
- Combine and pressure cook toor dal, chopped ridge gourd, onion, green chilli, tomato and tamarind flake. Once done turn off the flame and allow it to cool..
- Once cooled remove the bowl our and then mash it well. In the mean time, heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry. Once done add crushed garlic, curry leaves and fry for a while.
- Then add in mashed birakaya dal, red chilli, turmeric powders, salt and stir well, cook for 5 mins on low to medium flame. Finally add chopped coriander leaves and mix well, now ridge gourd tomato dal/birakaya tomato pappu is ready to serve, it is a good combination for rice and chapatis.
