Ingredients

  • 1 cup Suji / Bombai Rava
  • 2 cups chopped tomatoes
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • 1 Onion finely chopped
  • 1 sp chopped Ginger
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 3 cups Water
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 sp Chana Dal
  • 1 sp Urad Dal
  • 4 Cashews (optional)
  • 1 Red Chilli crocked
  • Curry Leaves
  • 4 sp Oil
  • 1 sp Ghee

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a khadai add popu ingredients and fry.
  2. Once they splutter add curry leaves, ginger, green chillies and stir for 30 sec.
  3. Add chopped onions, turmeric powder and cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until tender.
  4. Add tomatoes and stir, cover with a lid and let it cook on medium heat till the tomatoes become soft. Then add water, salt and bring to a boil.
  5. Once the water starts boiling, pour the semolina and stir well.
  6. Cover with a lid and lower the heat, let it cook till the upma is done.
  7. Add 1 sp ghee and mix well, turn off the heat and leave it for 2 or 3 mins with cover.
  8. Now South Indian breakfast tomato bath/tomato upma is ready to serve, serve with chutney or chutney powder.
