Ven Pongal Recipe / Pappu pongali / Khara Pongali / Katte Pongali

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/2 cup Moong Dal/Pesara Pappu
  • 1 sp Pepper powder
  • 1/4 sp Whole Pepper Corns
  • 1/2 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • few Cashew Nuts
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 5 sp Oil + Ghee

Instructions

  1. Dry roast moong dal on low to medium flame until you feel the aroma, transfer to rice bowl and wash well. Then pressure cook with 5 cups of water up to 3 whistles. Let the cooker cool remove the lid add salt to the pongal and mix well.
  2. Fry oil + ghee in a pan add cumin seeds, pepper powder, pepper corns, inguva and fry for a while. Then add cashew nuts, curry leaves and fry. Turn of the heat and pour the fried cashew mix to the pongal and mix well.
  3. Now pappu pongal/ven pongal is ready to serve, serve with coconut chutney.
