Ingredients

  • 1 cup Suji/Bombay Rava/Semolina
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • 1 sp chopped Ginger
  • 3 sp grated Coconut
  • few Cashew Nuts
  • 3 cups Water
  • Salt to taste
  • For Popu :
  • 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 sp Chana Dal
  • 1/2 sp Urad Dal
  • 1/2 sp Pepper corn
  • Curry Leaves
  • 1 sp Ghee
  • 4 sp Oil

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the semolina on medium heat until you get a nice aroma, then keep aside. Heat oil in the same pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add cashew nuts, green chilli, ginger pieces, curry leaves and fry.
  2. Then add in water, enough salt, turmeric powder, 2 sp fresh coconut and allow it to boil.
  3. When it start boiling pour the fried suji and mix well. Continue to cook on low heat with cover until the water is absorbs, then add 1 sp ghee and mix well.
  4. Turn off the heat and let it leave for two mins with cover, Now Kanchipuram upma is ready. Then transfer into a serving bowl and garnish with grated fresh coconut and serve hot with chutney or chutney powder.
